“Light in my life”

APRIL 16 – MAY 16, 2021

The International Day of Light is a global initiative that provides an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy. The broad theme of light will allow many different sectors of society worldwide to participate in activities that demonstrates how science, technology, art and culture can help achieve the goals of UNESCO – education, equality, and peace. Dr Penny Hatziefstratiou Michelinaki is organizing three events that are addressed to children, in an effort to promote education which is one of the main goals of UNESCO.  Two of the events are related to introducing light and lighting to children through storytelling. Penny will narrate her children’s book “Lucian’s first dream a journey to light” in English and in Greek. The Greek book has been included in the shortlists of the Greek IBBY 2021, making it one of the best children’s books for 2020. The third event is a drawing competition. The drawing competition is international and is addressed to children 4-12 years old.

Step 1

Think about the importance and role of light in your life. Make a drawing using a white A4 paper.

Step 2

Take a photo of your drawing. Make sure it is well lit, without dark points or shadows. You must only include your drawing in the photo and no surroundings. Save as the photo with your surname- name.

Step 3

Send your photo together with the requested information through the submission form.

Award

Submissions are allowed between April 16 and May 16, 2021. A committee will decide on the best drawing. The winner will be contacted by email in order to receive the award, which is a copy of the book “Lucian’s first dream. A journey to light”.

Book Summary

Lucian wondered what it’s like to have a dream. When he decides to look for his own dream, he sets out on a journey full of adventure! On this journey, Lucian discovers truths full of light, which in the end will help him find the way to his own dream…

By submitting the drawing of your child, you automatically accept the terms & conditions in this competition. You consent to the use of your personal data and that of your child, for the purposes of this competition. Personal data will not be forwarded or used by third parties. You also consent to the presentation of your child’s drawing in websites, social media, newsletters for the purposes of this event and through the online exhibition. A committee will decide on the winner. The decision cannot be doubted or not accepted. The winner will receive Penny’s book as an award, without any further expectations, whatsoever. Every child is allowed to submit one drawing only, as a photo (.png, .jpg) max 2MB. Drawings must be individual, and not collective work.
